About Off-Well Tops

Profile Viewer functionality enables you to pick formation tops that are not directly on the wellbore. These tops are referred to as Off-Well Tops, or Off-The-Wellbore Tops.

Picking an off-well top enables you to capture the subsea position of the top, even if the subject well has not penetrated the top with the wellbore.

Off-well tops become especially important with horizontal wells where the horizontal leg is drilled in close proximity to the target top or base.

The example below shows the Cardium and Blackstone off-well tops. It also shows multiple instances of the user formation, U-CrSh, which corresponds to the shaley part of the Cardium formation.

Off-well tops functionality is available in AccuMap when using the Profile Viewer, 3D Wellbore Viewer, and when contouring on Tops > Subsea data.

AccuMap subsea contouring enables you to include off-well tops in the gridding process. Adding off-well tops to gridding enables you to construct user-guided structural subsea maps.

Off-well tops are stored for each well in the OffWellTops folder, which is in the AccuMap working directory. The off-well tops file has a file name extension of .owt (Off Well Tops), and the file name corresponds to the dense UWI, for example, 100010104803W500.owt.
